Su conexión con la música se inicia profesionalmente en 1983 en Radio San Cristóbal 1060am (RSC).

Paralelo a su trabajo radial e influenciado por el boom de las minitecas a nivel nacional, (hoy en día “Sound Systems”, “Discos Móviles” o “Displays”) forma con 3 amigos la Miniteca Fun Machine, la cual sin duda marcó un precedente en el occidente del país.

La Fun Machine fue una propuesta de avanzada para la época ya que en sus sets se solían escuchar grupos como Harlequín, Ultravox, Producers, The Cure, Simple Minds, The Fixx, The Clash, Madness, The Police, Violent Femmes, entre otros, música que al no existir Internet solía ser más difícil de conseguir. Hernán era el DJ oficial de los sets de New Wave y Rock realizando sus mezclas en vinilos.

Con Fun Machine hizo el warm up para muchos conciertos ante un público de 12 mil personas. Fueron la antesala para Charly García, Mecano, Roberto Blades, Miguel Mateos y otros. Recorrió gran parte del occidente de Venezuela y el Norte de Santander (Colombia). En las Guerras de Minitecas de los años 80 alternó con las famosas: Sandy Lane, Betelgeuse, New York People, Stereoteca, Infierno, ZC, entre otras.

En al ámbito de las disqueras venezolanas, Korta Records, Hernán trabajó como promotor y como tour manager de algunas bandas. Funciones que le permitieron ganar experiencia en la logística de promoción y giras musicales.

En el 90 condujo “Video Stereo” dentro la TRT (Televisora Regional del Táchira), programa de conciertos y videos alternativos que se transmitió durante 3 años. En los comienzos del 2000 fue coproductor y conductor del programa “Ciudad Zero TV” programa destinado a la proyección del arte en todas sus expresiones, entrevistando a grupos, instrumentistas, fotógrafos, artistas plásticos, pintores, escultores, escritores, etc...

En el 98 Hernán decide montar un bar llamado “El Studio”, llamado así por haberse creado dentro de las instalaciones de un estudio de grabación. Desde la barra y a través de un cristal se podía ver a los grupos musicales ensayando para sus grabaciones. Después de varios meses abandona este proyecto para formar parte de Ciudad Zero, club nocturno con una capacidad de 1200 personas.

Aquí, en Ciudad Zero, era Dj residente y promotor de eventos. Organizó las ruedas de prensa y presentaciones de grupos en vivo como: Los Tetas de Chile, Fidel Nadal (ex cantante de Todos tus Muertos), Mata Rica, Aditus, Yordano, Claro Oscuro, Pacífica, Amigos Invisibles y Desorden Público, entre otros.

Entre 1992 y 1996, dentro de la radio Joven FM 101.3, Hernán emprende su proyecto radial “La Otra Música”. Espacio que sin duda se consolidó en un hito de la programación regional para el radio oyente convirtiéndose en uno de los espacios mas respetados. La idea de “La Otra Música” era transmitir lo que en otros programas no se difundía. Su slogan: “Para una gran minoría: la Otra Música”. Permaneció 10 años al aire pasando por Éxtasis 97.7 y finalizando en La Mega Estación, radio perteneciente al circuito Unión Radio (cadena radial de mayor sintonía en Venezuela) Este programa sirvió de puente para que Hernán fuese corresponsal nacional y extranjero en conciertos y festivales de música como Rock en Río Brasil, Rock al Parque Colombia y Vive Latino en Méjico.

Todos estos proyectos, (La Otra Música, Ciudad Zero, Fun Machine y su trabajo en Korta Records) fueron abandonados en el 2002 al momento de decidir emprender rumbo hacia la capital mundial de la música: Londres.

En la capital inglesa Hernán empieza a tocar en sitios pequeños como Bar Zatek en Camden Town, Bar Madrid en Oxford Street, Oxigen en Leicester Square, Lupos´ Bar de Soho, Bar Salsa en Charing Cross Road, Phoenix de Oxford Street y The Loot en Hannover Square.

Logró entrar en locales clásicos del underground londinense como The Marquee, Troubadour, Notting Hill Arts Club, Cargo, Sugar Hut, Maggies y en grandes discotecas como Ministry of Sound, Zoo Bar & Club, Islington Academy, The Grant, Sound de Leicester Square, Destino, Fez Club, Fiesta Havana, Abacus Bar, Amber Bar entre otros.

El Dj Hernán Atencio también se ha presentado en ciudades inglesas del interior (Bristol, Manchester, Reading, Cambridge) así como en locales madrileños, berlineses, italianos, franceses, suizos y en la ciudad de Salónica, Grecia.

Realiza visitas periódicas a su país, Venezuela, para realizar sesiones en ciudades como Caracas, Maracay, Valencia, Mérida y San Cristóbal. Ha sido DJ invitado por las Empresas Polar a ser parte de sus mega espectáculos en las ferias más importantes de Venezuela frente a mas de 15.000 personas.

Ha alternado en famosos teatros de la capital británica con grupos como: Los Amigos Invisibles en el legendario Koko de Camden Town, con Bacilos en Sheperd´s Bush Empire, con Gustavo Cerati (Ex Soda Stereo) en The Forum, con Molotov en The Grand, con Fito Páez en el Union Chapel, con Fabulosos Cadillacs y Andrés Calamaro en The Troxy.

Dentro del Festival de Río Támesis, organizado por la Alcaldía de Londres, ha sido el encargado de cerrar en tres oportunidades (2006, 2007, 2008) el River Tango Festival, sección del festival ubicado al aire libre a los pies de la Galería Tate Modern.

Sus proyectos en Londres no sólo se centran en desempeñarse como DJ internacional sino que Hernán también es promotor al organizar eventos y conciertos para las comunidades latinas en Londres a la par de musicalizar obras de teatro.

Hernán se describe como un sibarita y creativo con ánimos a la aventura. No deja espacio a la programación musical encasillada. La flexibilidad, la emoción y el buen gusto son sus mejores beats. Como DJ su éxito se ve reflejado en el dancefloor.

Actualmente Hernan ha retomado sus proyectos radiales Musicalista y La Otra Música que transmite desde sus estudios en Londres y sale al aire en diferentes estaciones de radio del Reino Unido, Canada y Venezuela.

In 98 Hernán decided to set up a bar called "The Studio", so called because it is formed within the premises of a recording studio. Here at City Zero, was resident DJ and event promoter. Organized press conferences and presentations of live bands including Los Tetas de Chile, Fidel Nadal (former lead singer of All Your Dead), Mata Rica, Aditus, Yordano, Dark Light, Peaceful, Amigos Invisibles and Public Disorder, among others.

Between 1992 and 1996 under the Youth Radio 101.3 FM, Hernán begins its radio project "The Other Music." Space which is definitely a milestone consolidated regional programming for the radio listener becoming one of the most respected. The idea of "Other Music" was to convey what other programs are not broadcast. His slogan: "For a large minority: the Other Music." Spent 10 years on the air through Ecstasy 97.7 and ending in La Mega Estación, to the circuit radio Radio Union (highest rated radio station in Venezuela) This program served as a bridge for Hernán were national and foreign correspondent at concerts and music festivals Rock in Rio as Brazil, Colombia and Park Rock Vive Latino in Mexico.

All these projects, (The Other Music, Zero City, Fun Machine and work in Korta Records) were abandoned in 2002 when deciding to undertake due to the global music capital, London.

In the English capital Hernán began playing in small places like Zatek Bar in Camden Town, Madrid Bar in Oxford Street, Oxygen in Leicester Square, Lupos' Bar in Soho, Bar Salsa on Charing Cross Road, Phoenix, Oxford Street and The Loot in Hanover Square.

Within the Thames Festival, organized by the Mayor of London, has been responsible for close on three occasions (2006, 2007, 2008) the River Tango Festival, the festival section located outdoors at the foot of the Tate Modern Gallery .

Its projects in London will not only focus on serving as an international DJ Hernan but also a promoter to organize events and concerts for Latino communities in London at the same putting music plays.

Hernán is described as a gourmet and creative minds to the adventure. Leaves no room for music programming pigeonholed. The flexibility, emotion and good taste are the best beats. As a DJ his success is reflected in the dancefloor.

Hernan currently has resumed its radio projects musicals and other music streaming from his studies in London and aired in various radio stations in the UK, Canada and Venezuela.
